Biography

Sarah Zagefka is an artist who focuses on exploring the uniqueness of people and their living spaces. Her artworks delve into the traces left behind by individuals in the places they inhabit or use. Zagefka's approach is not merely neutral documentation of objects, but rather an attempt to capture the character of their interaction with their surroundings.

Zagefka's work is characterized by delicate brushstrokes and an emphasis on capturing the mood and essence of the spaces she depicts. She has a keen interest in the environments of artists and their creations and often features these subjects in her paintings.
Her interest in the visual arts began during her studies of art therapy / art education at the Ottersberg University of Applied Sciences, where she graduated in May 2006.

Her professional journey continued at the University of the Arts Bremen, where she began studying painting with Prof. Karin Kneffel in September 2007. In October 2008, she continued her painting studies, this time at the renowned Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where she graduated in 2014. She was awarded the Debutante Prize of the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts for her outstanding achievements.

Sarah continued her artistic development as a master student with Prof. Karin Kneffel at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, passing her master's examination in May 2013. Her talent and dedication to art have been recognized through various grants, including support from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture as part of the Fanny Carlita Foundation in 2009 and support from the Masthoff Cultural Foundation, Haltern am See, in 2014.

Through her art, Zagefka invites viewers to contemplate the stories and emotions that are embedded in the spaces we inhabit.
