DE: DMZ steht für demilitarisierte Zone zwischen Nord- und Südkorea. Während einer Reise in Südkorea konnte, Staack mittels XX Landschaftsfotografien von Nordkorea aufnehmen. Schließlich interessierte ihn, wie das Land, von dem man im Rest der Welt sonst wenig von innen zu sehen bekommt, aussieht. Eins dieser Fotos ist die Grundlage für das Werk „DMZ“, das mittels Sanddruck für dessen anschließende Erosion produziert wird. In unserer Ausstellung ist DMZ auf einem Sockel eingelassen, der mittels Soundvibration das Bild zerstört. Je nach Stärke des Lautsprechers, wird das Bild langsamer oder schneller verwackelt, verrutscht an die Kanten, bis es schließlich nicht mehr zu erkennen ist. Gerade bei Bildern wie dem von Nordkorea, das Staack mittels XX erhaschen konnte, stellt sich die Frage, welche Bedeutung diese Aufnahme hat. Was, wird wieso und wie festgehalten? Diese Frage, die in den Werken des Künstlers immer wieder auftaucht, lässt sich hier gerade durch die Zerstörung des Bildes wiedererkennen.

EN: DMZ stands for demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. During a trip to South Korea, Staack was able to take landscape photographs of North Korea using XX. After all, he was interested in what the country, of which one otherwise gets few glimpses from the inside in the rest of the world, looks like. One of these photos is the basis for the work "DMZ", which is produced by means of sand pressure for its subsequent erosion. In our exhibition, DMZ is embedded on a pedestal that uses sound vibration to erode the image. Depending on the strength of the loudspeaker, the image is blurred slower or faster, slipping to the edges, until finally it is no longer recognizable. Especially with images like the one of North Korea, which Staack was able to catch by means of XX, the question arises as to what meaning this recording has. What, is captured why and how? This question, which appears again and again in the artist's works, can be recognized here precisely through the destruction of the image.
