Future Ancestors No. # 12

This work connects gestures of the body, everyday objects that have carried life through time, and a distant cosmic landscape where stars are born.

A fertility goddess from Gandhara dating to the first century CE expresses an ancient connection between the human body and forces of fertility and abundance. She carries a worldview in which body, earth, and nature are intertwined.

Beside her appears the hand of a seated Buddha, a quiet and precise gesture from the Buddhist tradition. The mudra expresses inner awareness and spiritual concentration.

An Abbasid glazed ceramic bowl introduces another layer of human time: a daily object that broke, was repaired, and preserved. Its floral ornament suggests cycles of growth and renewal.

Above them unfolds an image of the Rosette Nebula, a region of space where illuminated gas forms an environment in which new stars are born.

A fertility figure, a hand gesture, a vessel that carried life, and a distant nebula meet here. Between them emerges a reflection on cycles of life.

SELARA performs a slow act of repair, like a star born in darkness.

She asks us to recognize new beginnings within the cracks.
