Melanie Siegel, Sarah Zagefka, Karin Kneffel: Munich
Interior Exterior
In the exhibition INTERIOR EXTERIOR we are showing new works by the artists Sarah Zagefka, Melanie Siegel and Karin Kneffel.
Interior painting has been present in all epochs of art history since antiquity. In contemporary art, the exploration of interior and exterior spaces often reflects the complex relationship between the individual and their surroundings, both physically and emotionally. We are showing new reflections on interior and exterior spaces, such as works by Sarah Zagefka, which read like social studies of the individuals who live there. Breathtaking pool landscapes, tennis courts, skyscrapers and idealised landscapes from birds-eye view by Melanie Siegel, who is known for her constructed lifeworlds of familiar motifs.
Both artists were master students of Karin Kneffel. As students, they developed their very own painterly language, but are clearly part of the "Kneffel school". The dichotomy between interior and exterior spaces plays a central role in Karin Kneffel's painting and is the thematic basis for her work.
