Melanie Siegel
In 2015, Melanie Siegel received her diploma as a master student by Karin Kneffel. Later, she received both awards and funding from the Erwin and Gisela von Steiner Foundation, as well as a residency grant and an art prize from the Cultural Foundation of Sparkasse Karlsruhe. Her works have been exhibited at the Kunsthalle Munich, as well as at the art associations in Rosenheim and Ebersberg.
Human and nature collide in the works of Melanie Siegel within a constructed world. The landscapes depicted appear alive, without having any connection to reality. In the first step, the artist deconstructs real existing places. They are removed from their context and inserted into a fictional and idealized landscape. The depicted motifs always appear from a bird's-eye view. This is clearly structured and creates both distance and a certain anonymity between the viewer and the place.
The connection is restored through a familiar motif, such as a swimming pool or idyllically placed tennis courts. Nevertheless, the scene appears surreal because the motifs defy the familiar view of these places. What relationship exists between humans and their reality?
